Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) has released a patient, John Mwangi Chege who has been at the facility for the last three years.
Chege was released to the care of International Vision Centre (IVC) Church-Eldoret led by Bishop Joseph Likavo.
According to MTRH's CEO Dr Wilson K. Aruasa, Chege lost his family in 2008 due to post-election violence and was admitted in 2016 at the hospital due to lung-related complications.
"Since 2016 he has been unable to leave the Hospital due to his dependence on supplemental oxygen and we have been taking care of him," said Dr Aruasa.
He spoke to the press at the hospital premises on Tuesday.
He reiterated that there is a systematic approach in place, right from the hospital to the Ministry of Health that made it possible for Chege to receive the highest attainable standard of care at MTRH through Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
"The hospital supported John in paying his National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) arrears which he had incurred during his Hospital stay and also waived a bill of Sh 630,000," added the MTRH CEO.
Dr Aruasa further said that MTRH is committed to seeing one of the Big Four agenda of affordable healthcare is met by supporting the provision of specialized quality, accessible and affordable healthcare.
Bishop Likavo, speaking after receiving the patient who will continue his management through IVC homecare, lauded MTRH for the care that his congregant had been receiving during the long stay at the hospital and for waiving the bill.
