Magufuli made the remarks on Wednesday, after receiving repatriated gold worth Sh100 million that had been nabbed in Kenya early last year.

In a remark that left members of the press in laughter, the Tanzanian President said that he and Uhuru had the opportunity to sell and share the proceeds of the gold had they been bad men.

He noted that by the time the media would be reporting about the lost gold, they would already be having the money in their accounts and Tanzanians wouldn't have seen anything.

"President Uhuru is a patriotic citizen who loves Kenyans and Tanzanians. And if I was not the same, Tanzanians wouldn't have seen these goods. We would have shared them between ourselves secretly… Newspapers will report but we would have already taken the money," he Magufuli said as quoted by the Standard Digital amid laughter.

He also urged the Kenyan authorities to lend Tanzania a hand with regards to fighting illegal movement of such merchandise.

Magufuli noted that the fact that the gold passed through Tanzanian authorities to be nabbed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) is proof of Kenyan superiority.

"This consignment originated from Tanzania but our officers nabbed it… Kenyan security forces are committed to their work …if they have extra knowledge they are using to deal with swindlers let them share with our Tanzanian officers," he said.
