Latest research by Sophos has indicated how quite a number of apps could drain users thousands of money unknowingly.
Whether you are such kind of people who install apps in their phones anyhow, it is the high time you filter which apps should be in your phone.
Researchers have cautioned android users over avoiding 21 suspicious apps which could result to them losing a lot of money. According to the study by Sophos, users part with lots of money, should they fail to unsubscribe from the apps, before trial period lapses.
So, while you install your apps, think again and again before installing apps such as;
Fortunemirror, Go Keyboard, Filmix, Go Keyboard Lite, S Photo Editor, Go SMS Pro, Easysnap, Astrofun, Clipvue, Filmigo, Z Camera, Master Recorder, Face X play, Go Security, Photo Recovery, Wonder Video, Video Recovery, VCUT as well as Go Recorder.
The charges are either weekly or monthly. Through a blog on the findings, one of the Sophos researchers clarified.
"Sure, it might make the amount look smaller, so users might be less likely to experience a sticker shock, but it actually exacerbates the overcharging. In one case, we found an app displaying €8.99 per week, or € 23.99 per month, which works out annually to€ 467.48 per (if you pay the weekly amount for 52 weeks) or € 287.88 if you pay monthly amount for 12 months," noted Jagadesh Chandraiah.
Some apps urged users to subscribe monthly on one screen while another one showed different weekly charges. As per the findings, users are urged to desist from apps having free trials.
"Nobody likes to read the fine print, but if you do happen to install an app that asks you to sign up for a free trial, it pays to read everything on a trial to make sure you won't be charged lots of money for an app," Mr Jagadesh continues.
And just in case you weren't aware, having the app uninstalled won't mean that you will have unsubscribed from it and neither will you have cancelled any trial period already initiated.
