Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has said that he does not know whether President Uhuru Kenyatta, the leader of the governing Jubilee party, will campaign for football star McDonald Mariga in the Kibra by-election if he is cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Speaking on the Jeff Koinange Live (JKL) show on Wednesday, the Nairobi Senator said that the head of state had the choice of physically campaigning for Mariga or sending his deputy Dr William Ruto to represent him.
"Will the President be out there campaigning for Mariga?" Jeff Koinange asked.
Sakaja in his response said, "I don’t know. He is the party leader he can be represented by his deputy or come there himself; it’s his choice."
President Uhuru Kenyatta has so far not spoken about the Jubilee's candidate in the by-election slated for November let alone speak about whether or not he will campaign for him.
Political pundits contend that the head of state finds himself in a dilemma on whether to publicly campaign for Mariga or just remain neutral.
This is because of his closeness to veteran opposition and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga whose party has a candidate, Imran Okoth
