It is a joy for a family in KIDIPA Kwa Kung’u, Nyandarua village after well-wishers from Nakuru stepped in to assist them to have a decent house after many years of suffering.
According to a 70-year-old David Wanjau, they have been living with his wife Teressiah Njambi in a tent-like grass-thatched structure in the area for more than 10 years.
They narrated that life has not been easy especially with the harsh weather conditions such as rain.
The elderly described the structure they were living in as one not suitable for human being but that of pets.
Similar sentiments echoed by his wife who said they have been through hard times.
“The structure we have been living in for more than ten years I can only equate it to the pets’ house,” said the elderly Wanjau.
The grannies were blessed with 9 children (7boys and 2 girls) but due to the poor background, the children could not get proper education hence dreams shuttered.
However, they are now grateful to the Nakuru Business community led by Simon Ole Nasieku for coming to their rescue.
According to Nasieku, they had visited the area for a funeral ceremony when they spotted the structure.
Their curiosity led them to understand why the elderly couple was living in such a dilapidated structure. They then formed a group and contributed towards the construction of a better house for the elderly.
“We visited this area for the funeral ceremony and we were perturbed by the structure that the grannies were living in and that is why we decided that we put up a decent structure for them,” said Nasieku.
He called on the well off in society to assist such elderly persons adding that the government has an obligation also to get statistics of the elderly in society so that they can benefit from the government funds for the elderly.
