Political analyst Dismas Mokua has ruled out possibilities that Mwangi Kiunjuri's sacking from the cabinet was as a result of his inability to deliver.
President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday sacked Kiunjuri as his Agriculture Cabinet Secretary and replaced him with Peter Munya, as he also reshuffled a number of his remaining cabinet secretaries.
Mokua says that the move had nothing to do with Kiunjuri's said incompetence, saying that if that was the case, then almost half of the cabinet should have gone home with him.
"Let's not lie to ourselves that Kiunjuri was fired because of incompetence. If the President was keen that he's firing anyone for incompetence, he could have fired 50% of the cabinet," he said.
Making the remarks on KTN's Inside Politics on Sunday, Kiunjuri's woes were purely political, troubles he has brought upon himself courtesy of his different political stand.
He notes that Kiunjuri is reaping the fruits of his inability to side with the president given that no employee of the government can fail to back the president and keep their positions.
"This was purely a political decision that if you are an employee of the government of Kenya and you are not dancing to the tune of President Uhuru Kenyatta you are going home," he added.
Kiunjuri has been seen to be closer to Deputy President William Ruto than the president, at a time when the two (Uhuru and Ruto) are apparently growing more distant.
His fails have been the inability to prevent and solve the locust menace, where swarms of locusts are destroying crops in several counties, as well inability to address the plight of Kenyan farmers.
