National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has come forth to set the record straight over claims that some of the house committees are receiving bribes to interfere with investigations into different issues.
Speaking during a parliamentary forum for committees on Friday, Muturi said that parliament has been working in a transparent manner as opposed to allegations doing rounds on media platforms.
He said that most of the members of the public have been faulting parliament because they do not know the roles played by the MPs.
Muturi said it has come to his attention that some Kenyans only know that MPs attend parliamentary sessions in the morning and afternoon but they are not aware of what transpires in the houses.
He also reminded them that there is a need for awareness of the duties played by the parliament before the public can raise concern over different issues. Muturi also said that he is aware of some of the members who have been lambasted by the public because of the same.
“I can confirm that some members have faced the wrath of their constituents due to this general negative perception of parliament which can be attributed to lack of awareness on the functioning of the institution of parliament,” Muturi said, as quoted by Capital FM.
He also asked the public to change its mentality towards the MPs for the sake of better service delivery. His remarks come after the public lamented that some of the MPs are colluding with graft suspects to derail probe into their cases.
