North Korea has carried out a test at a satellite launching site, the BBC has reported.
The government described the test carried out at the Sohae launching site as a very important one.
KCNA, the state news agency, reported that the results of the test would be deployed for purposes of improving the country's strategic standing.
“The results of the recent important test will have an important effect on changing the strategic position of the DPRK once again in the near future,” KCNA reported.
No more details were provided.
The development comes amid threats from North Korea after denuclearization talks with the United States of America stalled, the Reuters news agency has reported.
Missile experts held the view that the test was not a missile launch but rather a static test of a rocket engine.
“If it is indeed a static engine test for a new solid or liquid fuel missile, it is yet another loud signal that the door for diplomacy is quickly slamming if it isn’t already,” said Vipin Narang, a nuclear expert, as quoted by Reuters.
The US and North Korea are locked in a diplomatic standoff over North Korea's nuclear activities that the US insists must stop for peace to prevail in the Korean peninsula.
