The African Union Higher Representative for Infrastructure had invited 500 farmers to his Opoda farm in Bondo, Siaya County to learn about new farming methods. The event was graced by Kenya Plant health inspectorate Service (KEPHIS) officials who helped locals understand plant varieties suitable in the region.

Raila is seen dancing alongside the elated women. He later dishes out money to them.

During the event, Raila warned Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri against importing maize. He stated that National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) stores still have enough maize.

“I am convinced that something is amiss and that the country may be getting dragged into the routine of artificial, ministry-made grain shortages to allow importation by a cartel in and out of government while consumers and farmers suffer,” Raila said.

Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service(KEPHIS) managing director, Dr. Esther Kimani, represented Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri. The CS did not attend allegedly due to attacks from the African Union's Higher Representative for Infrastructure. The opposition leader maintains that farmers’ produce must be prioritised over imports.
