Police from Thika's Makongeni station last evening intercepted a Nairobi-bound bus and arrested 18 Somali nationals without valid identification documents. Area OCS Samuel Khisa told reporters that police flagged down a bus at Makongeni roadblock at around 7pm and upon inspection, 18 'aliens' were found on board and none of them had identification documents and most of them could not communicate in either Kiswahili or English. The newly posted OCS said he became suspicious when he flagged down the bus and when he got in for normal inspection some of the passengers covered themselves with 'khangas' and were not willing to uncover their faces. He ordered them to disembark and upon inspection, none of them had identification documents they were therefore detained at Makongeni police station where screening has been taking place before they can be arraigned in court today. Khisa said that police along the Thika-Garissa road were on high alert after the recent warnings that Al-Shabaab militants were planning to detonate a bomb in Nairobi.
