18 touts were on Thursday arrested by Thika police following complaints from the Matatu Organisation in Thika town. The organization claimed that idlers had invaded their stages posing as genuine touts. Matatu operators also claimed that the touts were involved in criminal activities like fighting commuters, pick pocketing and vandalism. Led by Thika traffic commandant, Apelles Chacha, the Thika police officers said the 18 suspects had arrested on Thursday evening around 7:00 pm when they were caught unawares at Makongeni matatu stage in Thika town. It is reported that another group of touts had earlier gone to Mangu high school stage along the Thika-Nairobi highway to disrupt traffic by ordering other touts to join them in the planned riot. The touts are said to have fled to a nearby bush when the police arrived at the scene. The police are now holding the suspects who will be arraigned in court on Tuesday to answer to allegations levied against them.
