A student from Busia County was on Sunday voted the most valuable player at the close of the two-day Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom Western Region Finals at Kanduyi Stadium.

Miriam Orapidi, Arch Bishop Njenga Girls central defender was instrumental in her team winning the title and a ticket for the nationals scheduled for March 24-25 at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega.

Orapidi, 18, received a trophy and a cash prize of Sh30,000. She also guided the team to clinch the top award of Sh200,000 and with each player receiving a phone worth Sh6,000 and airtime of Sh2,000.

The form four student said her dream was to play for the National women team and later turn professional. The National women coach Richard Kanyi witnessed Orapidi voted the MVP.

"I started my football career in standard six at Kamuria primary school. I never looked back when I joined Bishop Njenga. I will train hard to lift my County and Western region," she said.

Kanyi said Orapidi has what it takes to join the Under-20 or senior national team.

Bishop Njenga games teacher Maruti Wanyonyi said Orapidi did not know how to kick the ball when she joined the school but improved with time to emerge the best central defender in Western region.

Orapidi might travel to London in April and meet her county mate Victor Wanyama, the Safaricom ambassador if Bishop Njenga will win the national title.

Mukumu Boys won the men's title after beating Lugari High School alias Blue Saints 2-0 in the finals.
