The National Police Service is in an awkward position after the implication of Deputy Inspector-General of Police Edward Mbugua in an alleged plot to grab property from an elderly tycoon.
Dilip Bakrania says that top police chiefs are part of the team trying to take away his property, in a saga that has sucked in Mbugua, the second-highest police officer in the nation after Inspector General Hilary Mutyambai.
This has landed detectives in an awkward position, especially after Mutyambai and Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji ordered investigations into the matter.
This is because it means the junior officers will have to as well probe their boss, the DIG as well.
Police sources indicate that only a senior can order Mbugua to record a statement, this being Mutyambai, though the same is yet to happen.
His other option would be to delegate the job to any officer above a superintendent, which is also yet to happen.
However, asked about the said dilemma and the said tension within the force on Thursday, Mutyambai remained tight-lipped, only saying that the matter is under probe.
"It is under probe. Let us wait,” he said.
Dilip says that a close relative of his has joined hands with the police to grab his property, including houses in Westlands with about Sh700 million.
He says that part of the plot includes deporting him to the United Kingdom, a saga that has also sucked in Makadara MP George Aladwa.
