Veteran opposition and Orange Democratic Movement ODM party leader Raila Odinga has issued an order as the recovery efforts in the Likoni Channel continue apace.
Speaking when he arrived at the channel, the ODM supremo ordered the dredging work that is ongoing.
Mr Odinga said he had been informed that the dredging was interfering with the recovery efforts.
"I want to issue an order here that the dredging work should stop so that those who are retrieving the bodies can work without interference, " the ODM leader said.
Mariam Kighendi and her daughter Amanda Mutheu perished in the freak Likoni incident and efforts at recovering their efforts have not yielded much.
The accident has seen the Kenya Ferry Services (KFS) come under intense scrutiny with a section of Kenyans calling for the axe to be brought down on the members of its top brass.
Retired Colonel Cyrus Oguna called on Kenyans to exercise patience as the multi-agency team continues with the recovery operation.
Recovery efforts entered their fourth day on Thursday.
Witness accounts say the car plunged into the sea after Mariam Kighendi reversed the car in a panic.
The government has denied claims being bandied on social media that the ill-fated car stayed afloat for 20 minutes.
