On Saturday, Mudavadi, through his press aide Kibisu Kabatesi, dismissed claims that he fielded a candidate in the race for the seat as a way to fight ODM leader Amolo Odinga.

The Mudavadi’s camp accused Raila’s team of attempting to ride upon the support of other leaders to win the seat when that time comes. Kabatesi said that Mudavadi is a national figure who stands on his own, adding that nothing can bring down the Luhya political kingpin.

“Unlike others who thrive [on] being compromise candidates under various coalitions, Mudavadi is the right candidate for Kenyans,” Mr Kabatesi said in reference to Mr. Odinga.

Mudavadi’s camp has affirmed that Owalo will carry the day. ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna had, earlier on, said that it was unfair for ANC and Ford Kenya to field candidates for the race yet they are part of the troubled National Super Alliance (ANC).
