Writing on the poplar social media platform, Chebet said that members of the cartel were in the business of calling people in the public relations industry and pretending to be professors.

She asked Kenyans to be careful so as not to fall into the trap of the con men and women.

"There's a thieving cartel reaching out people in the Comms and PR industry, purporting to be professors of Dedan Kimathi University & Maasai Mara university, offering fake tenders. They come complete with a procurement officer. Stay woke, " Chebet's tweet read.

Chebet is herself a trained public relations and communication guru. She is currently the head of Metropol TV Kenya.

She had a long stint at Royal Media Services-owned Citizen Television before being retrenched in controversial circumstances.

Her PR and communication credentials haves seen her dole out advice related to her training and grace commercial adverts.

The con industry is an entrenched one with unsuspecting Kenyans losing money to the tune of millions after being duped.

Telecommunications firms and banks have tried to sensitise their customers not to send money to questionable people until they are 100 per cent sure about a transaction.
