Geoffrey Mandela, a man leading a group of fraudsters conning the public using fake Facebook and Twitter accounts under Mike Sonko's name.
The suspect was arrested on Monday by City Hall detectives according to the Nairobi Governor.
"Today, City Hall detectives arrested an imposter who has been conning members of the public by using Mike Sonko pseudo Facebook & Twitter accounts. The suspect Geoffrey Mandela is a ring leader in the syndicate & was arrested at a hotel where he had gone to meet one of his victims," read part of the post.
Police have taken up the matter and are not questioning the suspect.
"The suspect is in police custody for questioning before he's arraigned in court. I wish to remind members of the public that my Facebook and Twitter accounts are all verified," argued Sonko.
The suspected criminals have been using fake accounts to defraud members of the public.
This is not the first time that fraudsters are using pseudo accounts under Sonko's name to con unsuspecting Kenyans.
A few months ago, another fraudster claiming to issue instant loans with a pseudo account was apprehended.
