Kisumu governor Anyang' Nyong'o's leadership has been accused of being noncommittal on paying Sh2.7 billion owed to contractors and suppliers.
Lately, Nyong'o has been among governors lamenting of a shortage of funds, after being blacklisted by the National Treasury over pending bills.
Kisumu Contractors and Suppliers Association has petitioned the county to halt this year's fiscal development project implementation until they are paid.
"We want the county government pending bills with utmost urgency. The money should be fully paid before the county government can embark on the implementation of this fiscal year’s development projects,” said the Association's Pending Bills Sub Committee Chairman Maurice Aloo.
Aloo spoke during a press conference in Kisumu on Tuesday. He noted that the withheld funds continue to hurt them in terms of piling interests of their bank loans.
He said that even after presenting their grievances, nothing has been done and they are yet to receive a positive outcome.
This comes only five months after 40 contractors petitioned the county, through the county assembly, demanding payment for services rendered to the county.
Contractors and suppliers demand is additional pressure to the county boss, whose leadership is already grappling with an ongoing strike of medics, who have since deserted public health facilities.
