The incident happened when a group of seniors citizens had converged at the Dago PAG church and stole Sh1.6 million. They reportedly shot in the sir to disperse the elders.

The incident was confirmed by Kisumu West OCPD Eddy Kangi who said that the gang scuttered the leaders who had lined up for the money before making away with it.

He said that attempts by Administration Police officers manning a nearby booster to respond were futile as the robbers managed to get away using motorbikes, reports the Citizen Digital.

The police boss also accused the persons in charge of the program of breaking the protocol by failing to notify the police that they were dealing in such amounts of money for security.

It was also confirmed by Kisumu County Director of Social Services Dennis Mudhune whose officers who were at the scene have been arrested in line with the ongoing probe.

Mudhune said that there are instances where the beneficiaries are physically given the money, which is part of the government's stipend program for vulnerable citizens.
