Grief engulfed Geterere village in Nyamware sub-location, Keumbu Division in Nyaribari Chache constituency, Kisii County on Saturday after a first-year engineering student at Vision Empowerment Training Institute, Kitengela branch committed suicide.

Reuben Ogoti said his late brother Robert Nyang'au Ogoti, 19 consumed poison and hide inside his house where he died. 

"I left to work on Saturday morning when Nyang'au used my wife's phone to call me requesting me to return home so that he can have a chat with me. I'm shocked by the sad news that Nyang'au is no more," said Reuben.  

Reuben said it is not clear why his brother decided to end his life prematurely as he did not leave a note behind explaining the reason behind his decision. 

Kisii police commander Martin Kibet confirmed the incident saying the deceased was supposed to travel back to school on Thursday, August 8 2019 but, he postponed. 

"The deceased had booked a vehicle to travel back to school on Saturday after he failed to return to school on Thursday.  His lifeless body was discovered in the house where he has been sleeping by his sister Jacinta Ogoti who raised alarm," said Kibet. 

Kibet said police officers from Keumbu police station moved the body to Kisii Teaching and referral hospital morgue pending burial arrangements.
