NASA Chief Executive Officer Norman Magaya has differed with President Uhuru Kenyatta over his directive which targets legislators practising as lawyers.
In a tweet on Thursday, Magaya insisted that even President Uhuru Kenyatta was at one time represented in court by Senator James Orengo and the late Mutula Kilonzo Sr.
Mr Magaya, a close ally of Raila Odinga, asked Kenyans to condemn the statements by President Uhuru Kenyatta who wants the habit ended.
"The late Mutula and Orengo SC acted for Uhuru while they were legislators!!! These antics must be called out for what they are !!! How many CS and senior govt official are still in office yet they face a barrage of corruption allegations? he asked.
At Nyayo Stadium on Thursday, Uhuru asked the Attorney General to come up with a bill that will tame professionals from engaging in a conflict of interest related cases.
"One cannot serve as a legislator at the national or county level while at the same time practising law, whether or not for gain," Uhuru said.
The President said professionals who take state or public offices should give up a private practice and devote their full-time energy and focus on public duties without the perception that they are using their offices as a platform to advance personal interests.
"Is it fair? Is it right for legislators who have control over funds and exercise oversight over the Judiciary to appear in court as counsel?" Uhuru posed.
Uhuru's statement targeted Senators Kipchumba Murkomen and Mutula Kilonzo Jr who appeared for Governor Mike Sonko who is facing corruption charges.
