Cabinet Secretary without portfolio Raphael Tuju on Sunday steered off politics surrounding his position as Jubilee Secretary General and instead focused on President Uhuru Kenyatta's agenda.
Deputy President William Ruto on Sunday accused Tuju of working with ODM party, arguing that the move is aimed at collapsing Jubilee party.
In a tweet that caused uproar, Dr Ruto seemingly preempted an impending internal wrangles within Jubilee, with his allies calling for resignation of Mr Tuju.
“So our democracy is so liberal that the SG of a ruling party has become the chief strategist of the opposition!! Maajabu (Wonders!!),” the DP wrote.
But in an interview with the Nation, the former Rarieda MP refused to be drawn to the latest controversy, insisting that he's committed to help President Uhuru Kenyatta execute his mandate.
He maintained that Dr Ruto remains his boss, adding that he had no intentions to contradict him. Tuju however, insisted that he's focused to ensure the Handshake survives.
“It is … my position that I am committed to supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta’s efforts to unite the country through bold steps like the BBI, the handshake, the fight against corruption and the Big Four agenda.”
“Before the handshake, several people were talking about secession. So you ask yourself, who would really want to become a President, a Cabinet Secretary or leader of a country where a significant population is agitating for secession?” he posed.
His remarks come after ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna dismissed claims that Tuju was working as one of Mr Raila Odinga's advisor in reference to reports by a local daily.
