Renowned lawyer Donald Kipkorir has made an appeal to President Uhuru Kenyatta in the wake of the Likoni Ferry tragedy.
Writing on Twitter on Saturday, the city-based lawyer called on the president to establish by executive order what he called the Likoni Delivery Board.
According to Mr Kipkorir, the board would be charged with the responsibility of delivering on a world class bridge at the Likoni Channel
"I implore President Uhuru Kenyatta to establish by Executive Order an independent Likoni Bridge Delivery Board that Reports to him to & will deliver a world class bridge on Budget, Schedule, Aesthetics & that will open up Mombasa & Kwale to global investment & tourism, " the tweet read.
Lawyer Donald Kipkorir's words come in the wake of the Likoni freak incident that claimed the lives of Mariam Kighenda and her daughter Amanda Mutheu on Sunday evening.
They also come in the context of ongoing efforts to retrieve the bodies of the 2 victims.
The Kenyan government has called for patience, saying that the recovery efforts are riddled with a bewildering array of challenges including poor visibility, the depth involved and strong currents underneath.
Likoni Channel is currently being served by a ferry system as there is no bridge to connect the island to the mainland.
