There was drama at the Eldoret High Court on Monday after a mother attacked a man accused of killing her daughter.
The drama ensued when the woman, Beatrice Wanyotta, confronted Mustaffa Idd, a suspect in the murder of Emma Wanyotta, as he was being escorted back to the cells by two policemen.
Beatrice threw punches at the accused, claiming he was behind the mysterious death of her daughter.
The case did not proceed as expected as the suspect had not undergone a mental assessment as earlier ordered by High Court Judge Stephen Githinji.
"The suspect should be taken to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret for psychiatric examination before he can be brought back to take a plea," ordered the judge.
The two policemen intervened and shielded the suspect from being attacked by Beatrice who had held him by his collar.
Judge Githinji warned that Beatrice risked arrest and prosecution if she attacks the suspect again.
"The court will not allow such kind of behaviour to happen here again. If it repeated again you will find yourself in the dock," said Githinji.
The judge reminded Beatrice that the case will only proceed after they have determined that the accused is fit to stand trial.
"As a matter of procedure, anybody judged in court with murder must first undergo a mental assessment before he/she is allowed to take a plea and the accused is not off yet the hook," added the judge.
In her defence, the woman stated that she was angry because the case was taking time yet she wants justice for her daughter.
