An aide close to DP William Ruto, reports the Standard, says the second in command will not after all record a statement with the DCI.

“Those who want him to record a statement know what he is talking about and can investigate the matter without his input, which he will not give anyway,” said one of his aides.

Officials aware of the probe, however, say Superintendent Sang was unable to meet Ruto on Monday, with other reports indicating that the investigator had been told to ask his boss to talk to the DP.

“(Sang) was kept waiting for the better part of Monday afternoon in vain. We are still waiting for the way forward,” said an informed officer who asked not to be named.

Initially, the DP is said to have been keen to bring grilled by the DCI George Kinoti. However, the top detective had assigned one Michael Sang to pursue to assassination saga.

In an interview with Citizen TV on Wednesday, Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen also revealed that detectives do not necessarily need Dr Ruto's statement to pursue the matter.

Peter Munya, Sicily Kariuki and Joe Mucheru on Monday refused to record statements with the DCI after being linked to the death plot. They insisted that Dr Ruto ought to make a formal complaint.

“The standard procedure is that if someone makes an allegation of that nature, he is required by law to record a statement. The deputy president has not recorded any statement,” Munya said on Monday.

“We have made it clear that at no time have we ever met anywhere – not just in La Mada, anywhere else – to plan to kill the deputy president or any other person for that matter,” Munya added.
