Lugari Member of Parliament Ayub Savula has made a passionate appeal to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga, regarding the 2022 general election.
Speaking on Friday, the outspoken legislator urged Odinga to drum up support in his Nyanza backyard for Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi.
Savula held the view that Mudavadi had supported Odinga's presidential bid many times, and now it was time for Odinga to return the favour.
"We want to start with Nyanza by telling Raila Odinga that he has been supported three times by Musalia. We are telling him to remove his boots and put those of Musalia and start touring Nyanza to drum up support for Musalia. (Tunaanzia hapa Nyanza, tunaambia Raila Odinga, Musalia amekusupport mara ngapi tatu. Sahi Raila toa boots zako vaa boots za Musalia wewe kuja tembea Nyanza sema Musalia tosha)," Savula said.
Savula's words mark an escalation of the pressure on Odinga, from a section of Luhya leaders for him to support Mudavadi.
The ANC leader served as Raila's chief campaigner in the lead up to the disputed 2017 presidential elections, that saw the ODM leader lose to incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Odinga is yet to name the person he will support in 2022, should he choose not to run himself.
