Acting Cabinet Secretary for National Treasury Ukur Yatani has announced that senior Government officials will be expected to seek the approval of President Uhuru Kenyatta before they can travel out of the country.

Speaking on Friday after signing an Sh88 billion financial assistance with the Government of Japan, Ukur said that the new directive has been reached as the government seeks to put in place budget austerity measures to reduce operations the cost.

The senior government officials expected to seek Uhuru’s nod before travelling out of the country will include Cabinet Secretaries. 

Yatani also said that the government is keen on reducing the unnecessary expenditure on tea, conferences, training, foreign and local trips, and advertisements. 

He asked different government dockets to ensure that they do not send overrepresentation to different events.

"If you used to send two people for a conference, we will make sure you send only one," said Yattani, as quoted by the Standard. 

The CS further said that the national government is committed to ensuring that no funds are lost through expenditures that can be avoided. 

He reminded other officials in the government that they must operate within the stated budget to ensure they attain developmental goals.
