Residents in Kisumu were treated to an early morning scene after traffic police officers opened fire on Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives.
This came after the detectives moved in to arrest the traffic police officers on a roadblock at Mamboleo area.
The detectives were acting on a tip-off by bodaboda operators of blatant bribery at the roadblock.
Confirming the incidence, a senior police officer noted that all the rogue traffic police officers at the roadblock were nabbed.
“That is when the traffic police officers shot at them, but none of the EACC officers were injured,” said the senior EACC officer.
One police officer was hit by a stray bullet and was rushed to the hospital.
The arrested traffic officers will be arraigned in court Wednesday.
The incidence comes just a day after the EACC released a report painting the Interior Ministry as the most corrupt government agency in Kenya.
