Kenya Defense Forces on Friday distributed foodstuffs in Dhobley, Jubaland as a sign of cooperation between troops and civilians.
More often than not, families in towns that have been liberated from Al-Shabaab militants, are enabled to start lives afresh.
The troops spent much of Friday in Dhobley, a town situated in Jubaland state of Somalia which is under the jurisdiction of KDF.
Col Hassan Chala, the Deputy Sector Two Commander, who handed over the relief items on Friday, explained that donation was a gesture in support of internally displaced people and refugee returnees.
Also, the assistance comes after recent heavy rains that caused flash floods in the region.
According to him AMISOM has, in the past, conducted free medical camps for the community, and pledged to continue the support.
“We have been able to donate foodstuffs to about one hundred people. The support comes after recent heavy rains that caused flooding and displaced people who are now hungry and need food,” he noted.
Dhobley town Deputy Administrator in charge of community service, Mukhtar Ahmed Sahal, hailed the AMISOM Kenyan contingent for the assistance to the community.
“AMISOM’s support for the vulnerable population in 2019 was enormous. They are our brothers with whom we live in Dhobley and we thank them for their timely support,” said Mukhtar.
Kenya first deployed troops to Somalia in 2011 under Operation Linda Nchi before they were integrated into the AMISOM in 2012.
Despite massive setbacks inflicted on KDF soldiers, the troops have, however, managed to liberate strategic towns such as Kismayo in Jubaland.
