Speaking in Nairobi when he met different stakeholders in the campaign against the vice, Ruto said that the practice must stop by all means.

He warned communities still engaging in the vice, adding that the government will not take the same lightly.

“FGM simply put is violence against women and we must stop it by all means; every avenue must be used," he said.

The DP further noted that FGM and early marriages have been among the biggest problems the country has been facing in the past.

Ruto called upon different groups to support the government in the quest to end the vice, and give girls a chance to pursue their dreams.

“It’s clear to the gov’t that FMG and early marriages undermine and create health problems for our girls, problems with their education and problems with their socio-economic development, and therefore we must assemble every arsenal to fight FGM in our country,” he said.

Cases of FGM have been rampant in different parts of the country. Some girls have been forced to escape from their homes to avoid being forced to undergo the vice.
