Flamboyant city lawyer Donald Kipkorir has now proposed for the scrapping of nominated seats in the Senate and National Assembly.
On Saturday, Kipkorir opined that political seats in the legislative houses should be elective adding that the post of nominated senators, MPs are just adding up the ballooning wage bill.
"Truth be told, Nominated Senators, MPs & Senators add no value. They’re overpaid masseuse & marionettes. All political seats in legislative assemblies & Political Parties should be elective. There should be no gender quota. Gender Law should be scrapped. Let all Fight for Power," tweeted Kipkorir.
Kipkorir's sentiments are in line with the proposals contained in Punguza Mizigo bill fronted by Thirdway Alliance Party leader Ekuru Aukot.
Aukot's bill seeks to reduce the number of MPs from the current 416 to 147 in a bid to reduce the wage bill.
This will also see the position of Women Reps. nominated MPs and MCAs scrapped.
However, Punguza Mizigo bill suffered a major blow after High Court Justice James Makau ruled that the bill should not be debated by county assemblies until the questions raised are solved.
"I am satisfied that the applicants have raised valid concerns about the initiative and hereby issue an order stopping the 47 county assemblies from debating or approving the bill pending determination of the suit,” ruled Justice Makau.
However, Aukot says he will continue with civic education on the contents of the bill.
