Deputy President William Ruto on Sunday mocked his political opponents who were against his contributions towards the church. Speaking at Kasarani Gymnasium during the 25th anniversary of Pastor Pius Muiru and his church Maximum Miracle Centre, DP Ruto defended the donations in a sarcastic and humorous way.
He began by pointing out that politics has a lot of issues and hence cautioned his fellow politicians against forgetting the existence of God.
“We have issues in the Christian journey, but we have more issues in our political war. In Deuteronomy 8:11, it says, 'Be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day',” DP Ruto said as quoted by the Standard Media.
He left the crowd in laughter when he proceeded to claim that a section of the politicians had suggested to amend parts of the Bible.
“There are some politicians who have started saying the Bible was not well written and now should be amended, especially on verses concerning offerings,” he stated.
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Chairman and Suba South Member of Parliament John Mbadi in June proposed for a legal provision in the constitution that would limit the amount of donation that politicians should issue out during fundraising.
In a tweet on Sunday evening, DP Ruto assured the church of support from the government.
