Nairobi County acting County Secretary Simon Morintat has been put on the spot over the construction of four stadia at Sh1.2 billion. Morintat has since been summoned by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to shed more light on the projects' financing.
EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak has confirmed the issuance of the summon to the official as investigations into the project gain momentum.
Mbarak wants the official to come clean on whether the County Government adhered to the procurement procedure when awarding the tender to the contractor of the project.
He has also asked the official to present the anti-graft commission with all the necessary documentation to defend the project in question after audit queries were raised on the same.
“The EACC is conducting investigations into allegations of corruption and procurement irregularities in the award of the tender for construction of the four stadia. The commission believes that you have information that can assist in the said investigations,” Twalib said in a letter to the official.
The stadia, which are being constructed by M/S Scanjet Construction Limited are; Dandora, Ziwani, Kawangware, and Kihumbuini. Twalib said that the probe is meant to determine whether the County Government fully utilized the funds it was allocated for the construction of the stadia in question.
