Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka official car has been impounded by a local dealer over a Sh7 million debt. The senate is now opted to hire a top-of-the-range vehicle for Lusaka for Sh2.4 million to help him discharge his duties.
The senate will be parting with Sh400, 000 per month to settle for the deal.
Lusaka is expected to use the car for the next six months, which will translate to Sh2.4 million. The senate had to swing into action very fast after a local dealer impounded his car.
Lusaka will now be using a hired Toyota V8. The amount will be paid from the taxpayers’ pockets after the senate opted not to settle the debt or working out a deal with the local dealer.
The local dealer has affirmed that the Mercedes Benz will only be released after the senate settles Sh7 million debt.
On his part, Lusaka said that the vehicle had been taken to the local dealer where it is being serviced and not impounded. Yesterday, Lusaka said the vehicle was taken to the car dealer for service but was detained.
“The vehicle was collected two weeks ago. Spare parts are sometimes difficult to come by,” Lusaka said, as quoted by Standard.
“Spare parts of the type of vehicle are scarce,” he added. The Parliamentary Service Commission chairman Speaker Justin Muturi has said he is not aware of the Senate plan to hire the vehicle as indicated.
