A group of police officers have been sent to Baragoi within Samburu County in the effort to curb cattle rustling.
County Police Commander Samuel Ogelo attached to Samburu County confirmed the deployment was done on Monday after three people were killed.
“Police have been deployed to contain tension brewing following several cases of attacks that were recently reported in parts of Baragoi,” said Ogelo.
Bandits suspected to be from Turkana County shot a 12-year-old boy at Bendera area three weeks ago.
The bandits had raided the homes in the area and made away with 150 goats and 15 cows.
On the other hand, bandits from Samburu County responded to the attacks by killing a 52-year-old man and a 13-year-old boy in Baragoi.
Police officers were able to recover six goats and two camels stolen from Bendera.
They are now conducting patrols in Murijo and Marti areas which are prone to cattle rustling perpetuated by illegal firearms owned by locals.
However, Police Commissioner George Natembeya promised to restore peace within the regions affected warning politicians behind the vice.
"There is a ready market for firearms in the Rift. We want to find a way of containing that,” said Natembeya.
Alois Lentoimaga of Samburu North MP, however, said more needs to be done to fight this vice.
