A Kenyan national has made history after bagging an award in German for business achievement. Juliana Rotich bagged the 2019 German Africa Prize after she emerged the best out of several competitors.

Rotich was awarded after she created the Ushahidi software, which was used to monitor violence in the country following the 2007 Post-election violence. Rotich was presented the award by German Chancellor Angela Merkel rewards on Wednesday in a colorful event attended by different stakeholders. 

Merkel expressed her gratitude to the Rotich for her great milestone in the business sector. She also encouraged other persons to follow suit to transform the lives of millions.

“Your success also encourages many other women,” Merkel said in her speech, as quoted by Standard

She added: “We need people like you who have the courage to innovate and thereby infect others.” 

Rotich emerged the best from a list of 18 nominees from the African continent. The 16-member jury settled on Rotich because of the informative nature of the software and role it played in government.

In her acceptance speech, Ms. Rotich said that it is a great honor for her to receive the prize. She also said that she wants to change the lives of millions of people in the world.
