Mr Rotich and PS Kamau Thugge surrendered to DCI headquarters moments after DPP Noordin Haji ordered for their arrest over Sh21 billion scandal in construction of Kimwarer and Arror dams.

Mr Haji, in a statement, said 28 people linked to the loss of public money, will be charged with conspiracy to defraud the public among other charges.

“In the public interest to prosecute these cases, I have considered that such infractions are crimes against mwananchi individually and collectively and the decision to prosecute is in line with safeguarding the public good,” Mr Haji said on Monday at a press briefing in Nairobi.

On Monday, Murkomen, who also doubles as a Senate Majority Leader, said he was at the DCI headquarters in his capacity as a lawyer.

"I have looked at the charge sheets and I can tell you the entire thing is a charade," he said in a statement that has already provoked his critics.

A number of social media users accused him of siding with impunity, some dismissing him as a saboteur to development agenda of the government.

"Waiting for Murkomen led brigade to demand the release of former Finance CS Henry Rotich. The cries of “mtu wetu” be persecuted will soon fill your audio and print media," said Karani Onsomu.

"I still remember that towels were supplied to Arror dam, Ruto even told us it was not 21B, I think Ruto should be on his way to Karura but I see his toyboy Murkomen is already there with Rotich. Kale thieves," added Bel Akinyi.

Another user  Chris Mwangi wondered why Murkomen turned up yet he represents the people of Elgeyo-Marakwet who were purportedly robbed development.

"Senator Kipchumba Murkomen is one interesting man. He’s Elgeyo Marakwet’s senator the county at the center of Arror and Kimwarer dams. On the other hand,he’s an advocate to one of the key suspects. Doesn’t that blind his duty to the residents of Elegeyo Marakwet," he wondered.
