Deputy President William Ruto has termed the ongoing debate on referendum to amend the constitution as a distraction.
The DP said Jubilee administration was focused on fulfilling its election pledges, such as President Uhuru Kenyatta's Big Four Agenda, and won't be drawn into talk to change the supreme law.
In a tweet on Sunday, Ruto asked the proponents of Thirdway Alliance's Punguza Mizigo Bill 2019, those backing yet to be published bill by the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), and those engaging into 2022 succession politics, to be truthful and debate on what will benefit all Kenyans.
"The Jubilee administration will not be distracted from delivering on our manifesto and (His Exellency's) HE's big 4 plan by those engaged in the raging debate on Punguza Mizigo, BBI or the 2022. They should be objective, truthful and conduct a honest conversation that is in the best interest of us all," he posted.
Reacting to the tweet, Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi also dismissed the referendum debate and termed it as a sideshow, which he observed has adversely divided the nation.
"Well put, let's abandon all these sideshows and focus on the agendas we have on the table. We should concentrate on what brings us together more than what tears us apart. But as we speak now, the country is divided more than ever before," Sudi tweeted.
