Kenya and Uganda played an entertaining friendly at the Kasarani stadium, and could only share the spoils after goals from Emmanuel Okwi and Kenneth Muguna.
Both teams played well, but Kenya was the best team by far in the second half. In front of a home crowd, there were plenty of spectacular highlights in the game. Here are three things we learnt from Harambee star’s draw with the Cranes:
1. Kenya needs to fix its defence
Kenya struggled to keep a clean sheet in the AFCON 2019 and once again defensive errors made sure they could not hold Uganda’s attack.
Uganda made some fine passes to bypass the Stars defence for Okwi to slot in the opening goal from close range. The defensive duo of Joash Onyango and Collins Agade can only blame themselves for conceding an easy goal.
2. Olunga's missed opportunities
Being named the captain of the national team is every footballer's dream and for Olunga he was given a golden opportunity to impress and show why he should be the Harambee stars skipper.
However, for the Kashiwa Reysol striker, it was one of the bad days in office as he failed to take his chances.
3. Francis Kimanzi impresses on his return
Switching back to national football, Kimanzi’s big decision was to select a team that will gel quickly before the friendly against Uganda. So far he made the right decision starting 5 local players with 4 new debuts on the bench as he continued his rebuilding.
With the likes of Victor Wanyama and John Avire yet to come, Kimanzi has a lot of decisions to make after the new cameos made their impressions.
