Kisumu Woman Representative Rosa Buyu has criticised a section of politicians opposed to the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) founded by President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga after their 2018 truce.
Politicians allied to Deputy President William Ruto have been questioning the initiative, terming it a plot to bring about a referendum, with some observing it as a plot to create positions for election losers in government.
Speaking on Tuesday, the ODM lawmaker faulted the remarks and thoughts, pointing out that the BBI taskforce has not proposed a referendum, accusing its opposers of working on hearsay and propaganda.
"Why do you work on propaganda? Why do you thrive on propaganda? BBI has not called for a referendum, you are listening to the streets and then working on that," she said, directing the remarks to her Uasin Gishu counterpart Gladys Shollei.
She made the remarks on Citizen TV's Daybreak show on Tuesday morning, which also attended by Shollei and Kandara MP Alice Wahome.
Buyu noted that the BBI is only a discussion seeking to bring forth solutions for the nation's shortcomings, and has no predetermined goal as is being alleged by the rival team.
She added that the initiative stands to better the state of the nation, wondering why Shollei and team are finding it hard to embrace an initiative aimed at making Kenya a better place to live in.
"Look at the nine points the BBI is looking at, why would you be afraid of a discussion? Kenyans, kindly come and have a discussion; what do you think about how Kenya should move on?" she added.
This comes amid expectations that the 14-member task force will be giving its report soon, after crisscrossing the nation collecting views from Kenyans.
