Antony Muchiri, the Kenyan ambassador to Cuba will now have to balance his duties in Havana so that he can serve Kenyans in Jamaica, President Uhuru Kenyatta has said.

Mr Muchiri was posted to Cuba in 2016 and was handed over instruments to also represent the country as envoy to Jamaica, making him one of envoy handling two countries.

Speaking in Kingston on Wednesday, President Uhuru Kenyatta said the move will better Kenya's relationship with Jamaica, one of most known country in Caribbean.

"President Uhuru Kenyatta today instructed Kenya’s ambassador based in Cuba who is also the envoy to Jamaica to divide his time equally between the countries he serves," State House said.

"President Kenyatta said Kenya and Jamaica have a lot in common and can learn from each other as he called on the Kenyan diaspora community to be good ambassadors," added the statement.

The President spoke when he met the Kenyan diaspora in Kingston, Jamaica, saying that Kenya will continue upgrading its ties with Jamaica for the benefit of the people of both countries especially the growing Kenyan diaspora based in the Caribbean country.

It was Uhuru's second ever trip to Caribbean having visited Cuba in 2016. Following Cuban trip, Uhuru signed healthcare agreement with the country which brought about exchange of doctors.

At Jamaica, Uhuru also held bilateral agreements with Prime Minister Andrew Holness, promising to have Kenya Airways making direct trips to the county.

He laid wreath at the graveyards of reggae icon Bob Marley and Panafricanist Marcus Garvey. Uhuru is set to return on Friday after the three days tour.
