The young man is said to have tried hanging himself twice before he was rescued by his mother.

The incident was confirmed by Kangonde location chief Sebastian Mang'ee who said that the young man is being held at the Masinga Police Station.

"The young man was found holding a rope wanting to hang himself before his mother stopped him and took the rope from him," said Mang'ee.

"The second time he used a sheet to hang himself. He was unconscious but his mother rushed and cut the sheet," he added.

The chief said that the man's parents called area Assistant Chief Carol Musyoka after the man regained consciousness and was handed over to the police.

He said the police have launched investigations into the incident.

The administrator further urged youths to shun suicidal thoughts when they are burdened by different issues and instead find ways of solving them.

"If everyone with a problem committed suicide the world would be empty. Youths should learn to find solutions to the things troubling them instead of giving up in life," he said.
