Nominated MP Maina Kamanda has lashed out at leaders trying to compel the populous Mt Kenya region into electing a specific person for the presidency in the 2022 polls.
Some area Jubilee party leaders have been trying to revive a supposed agreement where President Uhuru Kenyatta was to back his deputy William Ruto in 2022 and 2027.
But speaking at the AIPCA Thingitu Church in Laikipia on Sunday, Kamanda said the region will not be arm twisted into backing anyone, but will make its own decision.
He said the Central Kenya block owes no one any political debt, sarcastically claiming that all the debts were paid when Jesus died on the cross.
"Our community will not accept to be arm-twisted into pacts by anyone. We don't have any debt with anyone in this country, the only debt we had was paid by Jesus Christ on the cross, no one else should purport to say that we have a debt," he said.
He also revisited his clash with Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro last Sunday, where they almost engaged in a fist fight over who was to take charge of the fundraiser in a Kiharu church.
"Churches should be respected and given the honour they deserve. We cannot joke with the altar to that extent, if anyone wants to wrestle with somebody let them look for an open stadium and flex their muscles there," he added.
Kamanda as well reiterated his support for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), a national healing campaign founded by President Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
