An anti-mugging police officer was robbed of his Jericho pistol by two thugs who were riding on two motorcycles in Nairobi's Globe Cinema area around 9 pm on Saturday.
The Standard reports that the officer was admitted in a hospital around Juja road after sustaining head and knees injuries.
Nairobi County Police Commander Philip Ndolo said that the suspects will be pursued.
Incidences of police officers losing their firearms in the city are on the rise. For instance, a pistol belonging to a police officer attached to Machakos county Women Representative Joyce Kamene was found in a supermarket along Kenyatta Avenue wrapped together with six bullets.
The officer reported the incident in Central Police station but he was held pending investigations on how the pistol ended in a supermarket.
Another gang that was pursed by the police dropped a Ceska pistol with 12 bullets to divert police attention and vanished in Jericho estate, Nairobi.
The gang is reported to harass motorists and pedestrians. The police officers had been tipped and they were on a patrol to ensure the security of the pedestrians in the area where the crime levels has been on the rise.
No arrest has been effected but investigations are ongoing.
