Deputy President William Ruto has announced that all the stadiums which the Jubilee government promised to construct will be completed within the next one year.
Speaking on Friday at the Kericho Green Stadium during the ongoing Kenya Inter-Counties Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSA) games, Dr Ruto noted that the government will put special focus on women's sports.
The DP who was hosted by Kericho Governor Paul Chepkowny said that he is confident the move will boost the standard of stadiums in the country, as the nation seeks to host international competitions, including the Olympics.
He said Kenya is gearing to host the IAAF World Under 20 Championships, following the country's success in hosting the IAAF World Under 18 Championships in July 2017.
Ruto further announced that the creation of the sports and arts fund will enable the construction and completion of all the stalled stadiums around the country.
"Since we now have a predictable and reliable source of resources, sporting events will be adequately funded to harness the will and talent. I am informed by the Ministry of Sports that construction of all stadia we had promised will be finalised by next year," said Ruto.
In the Jubilee manifesto, President Uhuru Kenyatta's government had pledged to construct five new modern stadiums, but the promise is yet to be fulfilled eight years down the line.
