National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) Vice Chairperson Fatuma Tabwara was on Monday laid to rest barely 24 hours after her death.

Ms Tabwara, who collapsed on Sunday was appointed to the commission in November and had barely served for two months.

Present were NCIC commissioners, county commissioner Karuku Ngumo, Governor Salim Mvurya, Matuga MP Kassim Tandaza among others.

Mvurya told the local residents to embrace Tabwara's spirit of propagating peace and unity. He said to keep her legacy alive everyone must use harmony as a shield for prosperity.

"It is hard to admit that she has gone but the most important thing is to fulfil her last wish and that is living peacefully as people and under the common accord, " said Mvurya.

She was buried in line with strict traditions of the Islamic religion at her Kwale county home.

President Uhuru Kenyatta was among prominent people who sent his condolences to the family of Tabwara.

“It is very sad indeed that we have lost one of the promising women leaders in the Coast region.

"In this hour of sorrow and grief, I convey my deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to her family, relatives and friends,” President Kenyatta said.
