Gatundu South lawmaker Moses Kuria has told President Uhuru Kenyatta off regarding the proposed constitutional amendments.
Uhuru and his new ally and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) boss Raila Odinga have been pushing for a referendum to among others, create a more inclusive government.
But Kuria who represents Uhuru's rural home and is in office on his Jubilee Party now says that he is ready to defy the head of state on this one as he is completely against it.
He says that the changes can be done through the parliament or included in the 2022 general elections if they mist be presented to the people for voting.
“I cannot support a referendum. I have given my recommendations to the Building Bridges Initiative and I told them there are some changes we can do through Parliament," said the fiery MP.
He made the remarks on KTN's Point Blank on Wednesday night.
He accused politicians of troubling Kenyans every now and then with less relevant issues like the referendum, stating that there are better things that need the attention.
“We'll not stop this country every now and then to do a referendum. Our economy is in serious problems," he added.
Both Uhuru and Raila have openly declared their support for the changes, with Raila saying that whoever is opposed will be swept away.
