Uriri Member of Parliament Mark Nyamita now wants President Uhuru Kenyatta to move with speed and pick a new Treasury cabinet secretary amid Henry Rotich's woes.
There have been calls for Rotich and his Principal Secretary Kamau Thugge to resign following their arraignment in court on Tuesday over the Arror and Kimwarer dams scandal.
Nyamita on Wednesday proposed Auditor General Edward Ouko as the best man to take over from Rotich, heaping praises on him with regards to his performance since his appointment over seven years ago.
"If I were the president I would have proposed the immediate appointment of Edward Ouko as finance minister (Ningekuwa rais ningesema minister of finance awe Edward Ouko. Ningesema apewe hiyo kazi mara moja)," he said.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) parliamentarian made the remarks during an interview on Radio Jambo on Wednesday morning.
He based his choice on Ouko's fearless nature in his job, observing that he has even at times pointed out cases of misappropriation of public funds in the national government which is his employer.
"I have observed him for seven years. We've seen him doing his job well and he says it as it is (Nimemwona hii miaka saba na tumeona anafanya kazi vizuri na anasema mambo vile ilivyo)," he added.
However, he noted that the job of picking the person to fill the slot should Rotich resign remains squarely in the hands of the Head of State.
