The secretary general of the Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) has mocked Thirdway Alliance leader Ekuru Aukot.
Speaking in Kakamega over the weekend, the outspoken COTU boss, referred to Dr Aukot as a child as he poured scorn on his Punguza Mizigo Initiative proposals.
"The constitution is not the one proposed by this Turkana child called Aukot. The constitution is the one I talked about three years ago (Katiba sio hii ya huyu mtoto Mturkana anitwa Aukot. Katiba ni ile ambayo nilisema miaka mitatu iliyopita)," Francis Atwoli said.
The prominent trade unionist's intervention comes amid a spirited push by Dr Aukot to create momentum for his Punguza Mizigo proposals.
Dr Aukot sought, through his initiative, to significantly reduce the number of constituencies, abolish the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), target resources at the grassroot level.
A court removed an injunction last week on county assemblies debating the initiative, paving the way for deliberations by the 47 county assemblies.
Detractors of the Aukot's proposals contend that its adoption will spell doom for devolution and have called on Kenyans to ignore it.
On his part, the Thirdway Alliance leader maintains that it will reduce the burden on the shoulders of the Kenyan taxpayer.
