A section of Kenyan traders has decried endless challenges in their trade at the Kenya-Uganda border.
A group of Kenyan businesswomen on Monday appealed to Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to help them resolve the obstacles they have been facing during their trade so that they can realize an increase in profits.
The women lamented that over years, they have been facing several issues and the two governments are yet to address their plight.
Led by the president of Women In Business –WIB, Mary Muthoni, the women said that they will be grateful if Museveni listens to their cry.
Muthoni, who was accompanied by Uganda's High Commissioner to Kenya Phoebe Otaala, said that the profits from the trade have been dwindling because of the barriers they face on a regular basis.
They pleaded with Museveni to work with his Kenyan counterpart Uhuru Kenyatta to remove the barriers of trade at the border
“Women in Cross Border trading experience myriad challenges not limited to harassment- physical and psychological, Infrastructural, policy, procedural and behavioral constraints which hinder their ability to grow and formalize,” Muthoni said as quoted by the Star.
She also argued that the trade at the border of the two countries is their main source of livelihood and that they are determined to promote and sustain their businesses if the two leaders support them fully.
In the past, Uhuru and Museveni have been promising to strengthen trade ties between the two nations.
